WAGGA WAGGA ONESCHOOL GLOBAL STUDENT TOPS HSC FINANCIAL SERVICES EXAMINATION

Announcement posted by OneSchool Global 24 Jan 2022

A Wagga Wagga student has topped the Financial Services Examination in this year’s Higher School Certificate (HSC).

17-year-old Jarrod Davis said he was happy with the result but was typically humble in his response, instead wanting to focus on the efforts of the teaching staff and hard work of his fellow students.

The student, who goes to OneSchool Global’s Wagga Wagga campus, said he chose the course because of his interest in numbers and the concepts explored in the subject as well as its foundation for future job opportunities.

“Despite the challenges of Covid-19, we were pretty well prepared for online learning,” Jarrod said.

“In fact, the three HSC courses I did – Financial Services, Advanced Maths and English, were already being taught online, so the biggest difference was the change of scenery in working from home.

“The worst part was being away from classmates as working from home got a bit boring – and I missed the energy of being on-campus.”

After a quiet summer break, Jarrod is looking forward to getting back to class and is planning to study Physics, Legal Studies and Engineering in 2022.

OneSchool Global Regional Principal for NSW, Patrick McGing, said the school was proud of not just Jarrod but of all the students who did an excellent job among the challenges of the year.

“Jarrod’s result really is exceptional, but it is also reflective of the hard work of the entire student body, teachers and staff in what was a trying year at times,” Mr McGing said.

“We are incredibly proud of the whole school community, and particularly delighted to see our highest average HSC marks across Year 11 and 12 in nearly 10 years.

“One of the advantages of the school is our blended face-to-face and online learning model, which meant despite all the challenges of Covid-19 the students were well-prepared and able to adjust to changes as they came.

“We have had this teaching and learning framework in place for some years now, and this year’s results are testament to our self-directed model of learning, with students demonstrating initiative and personal responsibility for their learning.

“We provide students access to our teachers and educators from our campus network across the State –via a high-technology platform.

“It means if a student has a particular passion or talent for a subject, they can pursue that with expert guidance and support wherever the teacher or the student might be based.

“From Year 3, our students are empowered take control of their learning, setting their goals, reflecting on their achievements, and becoming more independent as they progress through the years.

“I am so proud of everything the class of 2021 has achieved and I look forward to seeing them thrive in their next chapter, whatever or wherever that may be.”
